The Benefits of an IoT-Optimized Cellular Network – CiC Podcast Episode 9

Private network podcast, felix, cellular IoT

Welcome to Conversations in Connectivity, I’m your host, Ryan Carlson. This a podcast for IoT professionals and the IoT curious responsible for growing, executing, or educating others about connectivity, cellular and otherwise, and the myriad moving parts associated with connectivity operations.

In This Episode -Exploring the Lesser Known Benefits of a Properly Engineered Cellular IoT Network with Felix Hsieh

In this week’s episode, you’ll get some very specific examples of what happens when teams of cellular network engineers partner up with cloud engineers to break new ground in the world of connectivity operations.

Some of the best IoT product experiences come down to anticipating the small things. That means building the tools and networking options that IoT engineers, hardware developers, field support technicians, QA specialists, or IT teams can use to do their jobs faster, gain more control, or streamline non-negotiable things like security. For many deployments, that means addressing old problems in new ways.

This can include:

  • Managing the time, expense, and security risks of static IPs
  • Navigating the number of hoops you need to jump through to configure VPNs and private networking over cellular
  • Diagnosing network traffic issues and performing packet analysis over cellular networks
  • And more.

Much like our previous episode, this podcast comes from a recording of an internal conversation with Felix Hsieh, Soracom product manager and customer reliability engineer. Joining us this week is Soracom partnership manager Richard Halliday, whose years of experience in the IoT sphere provides him a unique viewpoint on the challenges faced by engineering teams.

I’ve listened to this conversation half a dozen times and always seem to take away something new about the differences between traditional cellular data networks and and how engineering teams are modernizing the experience for those responsible for building and maintaining networks of IoT devices.

And now, on to the conversation between Felix and Richard.
