soraCON 2020 has been postponed. Here’s why.
First, the facts: in the context of growing concern around the spread of COVID-19, we have made the difficult decision to postpone soraCON 2020, originally scheduled for April 13 in San Francisco.
As one of Soracom’s founders, and current lead for our business in North America, I’d like to share a little more about how we came to this decision and what it means.
In 2015, my co-founders and I took a risk on our belief that a more connected world is a better world and created a company called Soracom. At the time we didn’t have much more than a wild idea (cloud-native telecom!) and a desk, but from Day 1 we took it as our mission to give IoT developers, founders, and teams around the world the tools they needed to bring new experiences to life.
Pursuing that mission, we have grown to serve over 15,000 customers worldwide. Their collective innovation is working today to make our world more connected, our industries more effective, our farms more productive, our cities smarter, and our homes and loved ones safer.
This year, it was our honor to plan our first user event in the US, a day in San Francisco where some of those customers could tell their stories, share the lessons they’ve learned along the way, and help tomorrow’s IoT success stories bring their vision to market and succeed at scale.
It’s a day I have looked forward to since we started this journey in a small, borrowed office in Tokyo. In the spirit of doing all we can as a company to help our customers succeed, it’s a day I’m willing to put off for a while longer. Nothing is more important than the continued health and well-being of our customers, our partners, our teammates, and their families.
I’m truly grateful to the visionary entrepreneurs, investors, designers, makers and engineers who volunteered to share their hard-earned experiences from the stage.
I’m humbled by the hundreds of founders, developers, and product owners who signed up to join us for the first time.
For all of them, I wish continued good health and success, and I look forward to inviting everyone back to soraCON when the time is right.
